She wears a glittering masque
of burnished
gold
and counterfeit jewels.

Lilliputian feathers crafted
by loving hands
of soft metal
cover
the face of a
solitary dancer.

Her dance is free.
Her eyes are hidden.

All the other dancers stare.

Jealousy
Lust
Fear
Wonder

All the other dancers move.

He plays for her.
He animates her dance.

He watches.
Singing, primal and low,
ballads.
Ardent words bind
two lovers hearts.

Tarnished twin souls
Revel
triumphant, brave
separated only by the dance.
